Photo Walk...

My examples of some techniques we learned!

The photo above is my example of leading lines. I like the colors, and the lighting.

The photo above is my example of Filling the Frame. I like the intensity in her expression, and made it black and white to increase her intense stair.

The photo above is my example of framing. I utilized my setting, and used the angled poster boards to create a natural frame of Ty.

Over the past couple days in photojournalism, we have been exposed to various techniques regarding capturing good pictures. We were introduced to techniques such as: Anticipating the moment, which requires the photographer to be aware of there event and surrounding to they are capable to capture the moment, Find different angles, like birds eye view and worms eye view, Rule of thirds, which requires things to be set off slightly to the right or left, Fill the frame, which is when the photographer zooms, with as little background as possible (no distractions, just the subject), Framing, which is using the natural setting of the photo to frame your subject, Repetition, which a repeat of something, and Mugshot, which you want to make a story. With our new knowledge of techniques regarding capturing photos, we were sent out to take photos using the things we have learned from our lesson. The photos above are the top three photos I took, that I believed fit the mold of some of the techniques I mentioned above! Hope you enjoy looking at the photos as much as i enjoyed taking them!!!

Capturing Emotion.

The lesson for today, is to understand the importance of emotion in photography, and how to achieve that. We were asked WHY is it so important in photojournalism, and how do you capture it? Emotion in pictures is very important, because it creates the mood of the picture, and offers the viewer something to connect with. The emotion in photos bring the picture to life, and tell a story through the emotion conveyed through the shot, which directly relates to why it is so important in photojournalism. In photojournalism we are taking pictures that have a story behind them, and we comment on what was going on when we look the photo. With the help of emotion in the photos, the story and the over all  meaning come together. I learned that to achieve true emotion you really have to place your self on the outside, and stay hidden from the subject so you can capture their true feelings. Also, with some research i learned techniques that help with capturing personal emotions. Those techniques are tightening the shot, which is picking a subject and "tightening the shot" to just them, or one subject out of many, and to observe your surroundings before even taking the photos, this technique is very important in photojournalism when you are required to explain the setting around the photo, the emotion portrayed in the subject, and why that emotion is being portrayed. For our assignment we were told to find a picture that captures emotion, and I chose the one above. I love this picture, although the fathers face displays an emotion of sadness and loss, when you really look at the photo you see the emotion of true happiness. The father-daughter dances at weddings are always emotional, and although men are characterized as strong and unemotional, this picture captures the fathers true feelings inside. Photos like the one above, express why emotion in photography is so important; the emotions captured in these pictures display the truth in human feelings and reactions towards events in life, which provides connections between the viewer and the photo.

All About Me

This marks my first picture post for my photo journalism class! The assignment was to take 14 pictures of the things that are most important to us, or pictures of hobbies, and then one picture of ourselves. Starting from the bottom left with my cheer uniform,  prayer candles, my stuffed animal BooBoo, and pasta which is my favorite food. The next row above that one consists of photos of my friends, my backpack to show my appreciation for my education, books, a suitcase representing my love for traveling, and my closet to symbolize my love for clothes. The top row are pictures of a University of Texas football game, above that is a picture of my two dogs Diana and Grace, a picture of my parents, a picture of myself, and the last one in the top right is a picture of my three siblings Michael David, Jaclyn, and Rachael. These pictures are just some of the things I love, and enjoy in life. The goal for this project was assisting you bloggers in getting to know me, and I hope that this assists in doing just that!!
