Capturing Emotion.

The lesson for today, is to understand the importance of emotion in photography, and how to achieve that. We were asked WHY is it so important in photojournalism, and how do you capture it? Emotion in pictures is very important, because it creates the mood of the picture, and offers the viewer something to connect with. The emotion in photos bring the picture to life, and tell a story through the emotion conveyed through the shot, which directly relates to why it is so important in photojournalism. In photojournalism we are taking pictures that have a story behind them, and we comment on what was going on when we look the photo. With the help of emotion in the photos, the story and the over all  meaning come together. I learned that to achieve true emotion you really have to place your self on the outside, and stay hidden from the subject so you can capture their true feelings. Also, with some research i learned techniques that help with capturing personal emotions. Those techniques are tightening the shot, which is picking a subject and "tightening the shot" to just them, or one subject out of many, and to observe your surroundings before even taking the photos, this technique is very important in photojournalism when you are required to explain the setting around the photo, the emotion portrayed in the subject, and why that emotion is being portrayed. For our assignment we were told to find a picture that captures emotion, and I chose the one above. I love this picture, although the fathers face displays an emotion of sadness and loss, when you really look at the photo you see the emotion of true happiness. The father-daughter dances at weddings are always emotional, and although men are characterized as strong and unemotional, this picture captures the fathers true feelings inside. Photos like the one above, express why emotion in photography is so important; the emotions captured in these pictures display the truth in human feelings and reactions towards events in life, which provides connections between the viewer and the photo.
